Hi. Wait, that’s hacky. I can only assume 98% of all Substack posts started with “Hi!” or something like that. Let me try again…
Sup dawg? That’s probably better. Very few have started with that I’m guessing. Well, here we are. My Substack thing. I’ve been wanting to just kinda write down ideas for a while and I’ve seen other friends of mine start to do this so I figured, “Oh this is what we’re all doing now ok.”
I was born in 1980. The boom of video games, cartoons, and toys. I feel very lucky that my parents seemingly gave me whatever I wanted. I mean, I still have over 100 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle action figures from the 80’s and early 90’s.
(I even did a web-series about me reviewing every single one of them in sort of a Tim & Eric-esque style.)
“Clean your room!” - my Mom.
So yeah, I like toys. I like video games. I like sports. I like all of those things a lot. Equally, probably. I don’t know how many people like all 3 of those things. You know the old stereotype about nerds and jocks and yadda yadda. By no means was I a jock, but I did play basketball almost every day of my life whether it was outside or at the playground or at school (I’m 6’6” and no I can’t still dunk. I used to be able to BARELY jump up and gently place the ball into the rim, never with authority). My wife even let me name our first daughter Penny after Penny Hardaway, the GOAT. But I also loved playing games and playing with toys. I dunno. I’m just really fascinating, that’s all.
Playing Nintendo (I can even go back further—we had an Atari 2600 and then a Commodore 64 (LOVED that thing) even before we had our first NES. We eventually got a PC (WITH PENTIUM!) around 1994/95ish and that changed everything too. I still played my NES and SNES, but the PC was awesome. Space Quest, Leisure Suit Larry, etc.
I write all this to tell you that I have a big, dumb brain FULL of thoughts about all of those things. And that’s what I want to try to do here. One day I might want to write about a Ninja Turtle. The next day it might be about the time I beat Battletoads for NES without Game Genie on Thanksgiving right before dinner was served and everyone was screaming at me to come to the table and eat.
This isn’t even close to the hardest level in this game. I can do this eyes closed.
So I’ll leave this here for now. If this seems interesting or fun for you (I hope at least one of you agrees), go ahead and sign up or subscribe or smash whatever button you’d like and I’ll keep pumping these out at a regular basis (that’s the plan at least). Thanks!
Looking forward to reading about Zitz, Pimple and/or Rash.
